What does a criminal lawyer do?
Criminal lawyers work on behalf of individuals and companies that face criminal charges and who need legal representation in a court of law ( Criminal Lawyer Group, 2021; Wikipedia, 2021).
In order to defend their clients, criminal lawyers conduct research on the case, analyze cases, and present their findings in court.
Their goal is to either to gain the defendant’s freedom or negotiate a plea bargain or settlement (Betterteam, 2021).
What is criminal law?
Criminal law focuses on illegal behaviors as defined by the criminal codes of respective nations. It also deals with issues of individual liberty, basic rights, and responsibilities.
Prosecutors (or procurators) and defense lawyers (or advocates) are professionals who are involved in one way in criminal cases (Brown University, 2021).
However, significant clinical experience may be equated with some criminal law experience for a recent graduate. Or, participation in internships, volunteer positions, or part-time jobs with public defenders and criminal prosecutor offices can be the necessary work experience required.
